How do I add a link to an external site to my menu?

Adding an external link to your menu is simple—here’s how:

  1. Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
  2. Go to Appearance > Menus.
  3. On the left, click Custom Links.
  4. In the URL box, enter the full web address (make sure it starts with http:// or https:// ).
  5. In the Link Text box, type the name you want to display in the menu.
  6. Click Add to Menu.
  7. Your new link will show up at the bottom of the menu structure—drag it where you want it.

To make the link open in a new window/tab:

  • At the top right of the Menus page, click Screen Options.
  • Check the box for Link Target to enable that option.
  • Now, in the menu items list, click the arrow next to your new link to expand it.
  • Check the box that says Open link in a new tab.
  1. Click Save Menu to lock in your changes.

That’s it! Now when visitors click that menu item, it will open the external site in a new window or tab.
