How do I add a link to an external site to my menu?
Adding an external link to your menu is simple—here’s how:
- Log in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Appearance > Menus.
- On the left, click Custom Links.
- In the URL box, enter the full web address (make sure it starts with
http://orhttps://). - In the Link Text box, type the name you want to display in the menu.
- Click Add to Menu.
- Your new link will show up at the bottom of the menu structure—drag it where you want it.

To make the link open in a new window/tab:
- At the top right of the Menus page, click Screen Options.
- Check the box for Link Target to enable that option.
- Now, in the menu items list, click the arrow next to your new link to expand it.
- Check the box that says Open link in a new tab.
- Click Save Menu to lock in your changes.
That’s it! Now when visitors click that menu item, it will open the external site in a new window or tab.
