PDF Still Showing After Deleting It From the Media Library?

If you’ve deleted a PDF from your Media Library but it’s still showing up on your site, it’s almost always a caching issue — not a sign that the file wasn’t deleted correctly.

Here’s what to check:

  1. Are you seeing an old version when you’re logged out?
    • Try opening the PDF link in a private browser window (Incognito mode). If it’s gone there, it’s just your browser caching the old version.
  2. Clear your browser cache.
    • You can usually do this by hitting Cmd + Shift + R (on Mac) or Ctrl + F5 (on PC) while viewing the page.
  3. Be patient — PDF files can be cached for up to 24–48 hours.
    • Unlike regular web pages, PDF files are often cached longer by browsers and systems. Even after deleting the file, it may take a day or two before your browser stops showing the old one — especially if the link was previously opened.
  4. Check for server or plugin caching.
    • If your site uses a cache plugin like Breeze, W3 Total Cache, WP Rocket, or SiteGround Optimizer, try clearing the site cache from there.
    • Also check for any CDN (like Cloudflare) that might be serving an old version of the file.
  5. Still seeing it after clearing cache and waiting 48 hours?
    • Submit a ticket and share the link with us and we can double-check whether the file has truly been removed or if it’s stored in a different location on your server.
